August has become the deadliest month for U.S. troops in the nearly 10-year-old war in Afghanistan, where international forces have started to go home and let Afghan forces take charge of securing their country.
A record 66 U.S. troops have died so far this month, eclipsing the 65 killed in July 2010, according to a tally by The Associated Press.
Considering the current 'commander-in-chief' campaigned that there was "fierce, moral urgency for change," it's completely appropriate to point out that the two deadliest months of the ten year war were TWO YEARS into his first term. Not to mention that the much-ballyhooed 'surge' didn't find the same traction it did in Iraq (unsurprising, given the differences in the two countries).
As much as I detested the rabid, vitriolic nature of all the war protesting under Bush (it was personal, not level-headed), I would have greatly respected the organizations above had they continued to keep the pressure on after the change of administration. But partisan politics and power seems to trump any pretense of moral outrage.
Republicans, Democrats, and all their minion puppet organizations.... a plague on both their houses.
