Midweek parody, part 2

As more people see government as the source of their needs, from health care to income itself, I see a replacement of God by the State as an object of reverence and gratitude. So maybe we need a Doxology to the State, since we now seem to think it's from there that all blessings flow...

(to the tune of Old 100th)

Praise government, mankind’s new god,
Those who want liberty are odd,
Uncle Sam gives us lots of stuff,
If you don’t like it, that’s just tough.

Offerings in taxes we will pay,
Just make our problems go away,
No more responsibility,
Passing the buck can make us free

We’ll be the sheep of Sam’s new flock,
Of losses of freedom take no stock,
He only wants what’s best for us,
Why do some make a lot of fuss?

Privacy, eminent domain,
Get in the way of social gain,
All those quaint notions have to go,
It’s a small price to pay, you know

We’ll build Utopia, you see,
Where everything we want is free,
We’ll succeed where others have failed,
Once all dissenters are in jail!
