The President plans a prime time television address tonight (Monday) on the subject of illegal immigration. Rumors over the weekend say the announcement might involve dispatching National Guard troops to the border. To which many Americans would say "it's about time!"
But then there's El Presidente Fox de Mexico, un buen amigo de Presidente Jorge Bush. (I'm not translating...you need to learn it too at the rate things are going!) He might get upset about such an announcement, so the White House has already assured him there's nothing to worry about. Any drastic measures will only be temporary. Get that? Even before talking with the outraged American public, Bush shored up the only relationship he really cares about. This isn't surprising, since the administration also saw fit to provide the Mexican government with data on the location of volunteer Minuteman operations on the border...thus undercutting their effectiveness, too.
I doubt the speech will note the Mexican government's encouragement of illegal immigration (including helpful instruction guides). After all, the real purpose of the speech is to soothe the U.S. public back to sleep, not derail the transnational agenda. Here's hoping George Orwell's book 1984 has a Spanish-language edition:
La guerra es paz
La libertad es esclavitud
La ignorancia es fuerza
