Bill proposes Christianity as Missouri's state religion
Political activism -- the excitement, the energy, the comaraderie...the futility. Christians in America complain about persecution, without any real understanding of what that term means. But as Peter Wehner once wrote, "the principal threat Christians now face is not disengagement from politics but absorption by it."
There's a time and place to engage within the political system. But too many Christians are trying to build a nominally, legally "Christian America," instead of engaging in the harder work of personally living out the Gospel and bringing individual Americans to the foot of the Cross. It's human nature to prefer cheerleading with the like-minded to reaching out to those who view life differently. But if we're to follow Christ's example, we can't just stay with "our own kind."
Just think:
Would Roe v. Wade matter as much if more INDIVIDUALS were touched by the Spirit to realize the value God places on life?
Would there be such need for expensive gov't services if people reached out to their neighbors in need?
How much effort do we put into building coalitions and congregations...and how much into building true, friendly relationships with people who do not share our faith?
If the law could make people righteous; if government action could solve the world's problems, there would be no need for a Messiah. Render unto Caesar what is Caesar's, and unto God what is God's.
