Compulsory indoctrination

UPDATE: with this sort of tyrannical behavior going on in school, is it any wonder their fellow fascist travelers in government believe the public is now conditioned to accept the abuse?

This past weekend, the Musketeers and I went for some "dad time" out at the range.  It was only the second time the older two had handled my AR-15... so I was one proud papa when the Oldest put all 30 rounds from his magazine inside the 9-circle!  The Middle Musketeer aimed a bit high, but had the grouping... we can work on that.  The youngest was content with his grandfather's .22 rifle, and made some pretty good Swiss cheese of his target.

Fun was had by all.

Meanwhile, in the State-run indoctrination centers known as public schools, being a 5-year old boy with such a creature's normal interest in guns is enough to bring the wrath of The Inquisition:

A five-year-old who brought a cowboy-style cap pistol on a school bus -- orange-tipped, and something that no one could possibly mistake for a real gun -- was interrogated for two hours (an interrogation that was so long, or so stressful, that he wet his pants) and then suspended for 10 days. Who treats a five-year-old that way?
The Post reports: "The case comes at a time of heightened sensitivity about guns in schools across the country. Locally, children in first and second grade have been disciplined for pointing their fingers like guns and for chewing a Pop-Tart-like pastry into the shape of a gun. In Pennsylvania, a 5-year-old was suspended for talking about shooting a Hello Kitty bubble gun that blows soap bubbles."

These incidents have nothing to do with safety, and everything to do with conditioning.  These children are learning from the so-called 'adults' to whom they've been entrusted that anything to do with guns ist verboten.  The overbearing treatment they are subjected to is certain to cause them to associate firearms with stress and fear, rather than responsibility.  We were fortunate that when, 7 years ago, we decided to homeschool our children, they had not been subjected to this kind of over-the-top head game to that point.  For us, the decision was more about how the kids would learn most effectively. 

From the outside looking in, it appears the disconnect between what is dominant, and what we want to instill in our children has only grown wider.  Even in "good" school districts, the agenda-driven conditioning is often present.  Regrettably, I'm reaching the same conclusion as the good Instapundit: that leaving children in this dilapidated institution called 'public school' is akin to parental malfeasance.
