The week before Christmas

'Twas the week before Christmas, and all through the House,
The taxes were stirring, as freedoms were doused.
Amendments were gutted, civil liberties were pared,
Congress knew most Americans no longer cared.

The Statists were snuggled, all warm in their beds,
With disarmament visions dancing in their heads.
While I, in my anger, and my family, in fear,
Were wondering "just what is going on here??"

When out in the public, there arose such a clatter,
I tuned in online, to see what was the matter.
When what to my wondering eyes should appear,
but miniature drones, and surveillance gear.

And plenty of SWAT teams, so lively and quick,
Knowing "there's ways" to make charges stick.
More rapid than vultures, the tyrants, they came,
While Leviathan whistled, and called them by name:

"Now, Easing!  Now, Spending!  Now, War Without End!
On, Welfare!  On, Credit!  No Borders Defend!
To the citizen, dependence; let them shop at the mall,
But dash away self-sovereignty, dash away all!

They sprang to their master, its bidding to do,
While tightening the net, so none could slip through.
But mine's not the only voice, crying in the night,
"Merry Christmas to all, but for freedoms I'll fight!"
