I've been at this blogging thing for six-plus years now, but I can't recall ever seeing such a huge spike in hits from Google in a 24-hour period. Don't know if it's their webcrawlers but if it is, they're voracious readers, spending half an hour or more combing around on each visit.
On the other hand, if these are people rather than programs, welcome! Thanks for dropping by, feel free to leave a note, and "ya'll come back now, hear?"
