This is just an attempt to distill some recent thoughts I've had.
Christ confirmed that the "greatest commandment" is to "love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind." This is, in effect, the totality of our being. What happens when we emphasize some aspects over others?
If we love God primarily with our mind, we become knowledgeable legalists -- unmerciful Pharisees.
If we love God primarily with our heart, we minimize the demands of His holiness and cheapen His grace.
If we love God primarily with our soul, we may be merely 'spiritual,' worshiping a 'god' we've created in our own image; a personal relationship with a mirror that does nobody--including ourselves--any good.
God wants us to enjoy His grace with our hearts, learn and understand His nature with our minds (through His revealed Word), and to enjoy His presence in our souls--a presence that should be notable to others without us having to say a word.
I think I have this down for reference now. :)
To paraphrase something C.S. Lewis once said, if you find this helpful, great... if not, forget I wrote it.
