"We did not have a AAA political system to match our AAA credit rating."I disagree. The system of government set up by the Founders is still the most well-thought-out and grounded-in-reality of any system of governance enjoyed by Man. The real problem is this:
“Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” - John AdamsWe no longer have statesmen... we have politicians. And there IS a difference. What's worse, we have a public so ill-informed or so indifferent that they allow clearly crooked people to remain in power (how many Congressional 'scandals' have blended into the background noise lately???).
We have gridlock because nobody wants to see past their own personal interests... in D.C. or in the country at large. And too many people have become so dependent upon government to subsidize their foolishness that they can't afford the chance the papering-over is coming to an end.
But it will. Now or later, it will. We would have been wise to end it a long time ago.
