Saturday Sounds

So the President finally released his long-anticipated birth certificate (or did he?).  My favorite comment from various coverage: "I don't know who'll be more disappointed: those who believed he was born in Kenya, or those who thought his was an immaculate conception."  Humor--and White House predictions that "nothing will satisfy critics"-- aside, there were some immediate points made about the documents put forth by the White House and Associated Press.  I remember seven years ago following the alleged Guard memo about President Bush... it took some time for that to clarify.  I don't claim to hold any particular theories about the current occupant of the White House, except this: for an Administration that campaigned on transparency, it's been anything but.  Obama had very little public service before campaigning for the presidency, and thus American voters had less information with which to evaluate him than any other recent chief executive.

Where there's this much constant smoke, there's almost always a fire of some sort, somewhere.  I've little confidence those in power will ever willingly cooperate fully so the public can determine if what's being smokescreened is simply embarrassing or if it's something more significant.  They are, after all, above such mundane considerations as what the public thinks...
