Not a second to lose...

It's apparent we need a way to prevent Congress from increasing the debt ceiling. It's just too easy to avoid real leadership and hard choices when you can independently increase your credit line. As for cries that the government will shut down unless the ceiling is raised, I call BS. Sure... there won't be easy money for things like the National Endowment for the Anarchists, or National Propaganda Radio, but life's full of tough choices.

Why don't we have a second to spare? Because for the past seven months, our debt's increased at a rate of $54,084 -- every. single. second. Put another way, the government is borrowing (on top of all taxes and fees it currently raises) a greater amount than the median American household annual income every single freakin' second!

Does anyone really believe the U.S. can pay back over $14 trillion in borrowed money? Why people even bother to lend to us anymore is a mystery I can't unravel. One thing is certain: this can't go on forever.
