Today is "Black Friday," when throngs of people mob retail stores to get "good deals" on various merchandise, most of which won't seem nearly exciting six months from now. We can only hope nobody gets trampled to death today. What a pity the "Christmas season" starts with such a prime example of human self-centeredness!
We often hear "thank God it's Friday," because it's the end of the standard work week, which means leisure time. As the old saying goes, "idle hands are the devil's workshop." Many Mondays are filled with regrets over decisions made on Friday nights.
Perhaps it's appropriate, then, that our Lord was crucified on a Friday. But as Carmen once sang, "it may feel like Friday night... but Sunday's on the way!"
