I hope all those who want the U.S. to be 'more like Europe' are paying attention to Greece, France, and the UK. Are these really the examples we want to emulate?
This could lead to a very long and in depth conversation on the nature of change. Europe has a long record of this type of action and, change as a result. Now, I'm not sanctioning the use of violence, but I don't find our system of backroom deals by the monied few to be effective either.
Our system is far from perfect. The difference is we were given a system that allowed us to make course corrections every couple years...provided we remained vigilant and engaged. Because we failed to hold those "back room dealers" to account long ago, there's a higher likelihood change will finally come about here via the European method.
