Been cruising the headlines, but nothing really caught my eye to bloviate about. But since my one regular reader chastized me today for not posting since Saturday (egads! get a life, man!), I figured today's a good day to finish this little parody I've been mulling over:
To the tune of "House of the Rising Sun" ---
There is a land, in central Asia,
They call Afghanistan,
And it's been the death of many a poor soldier
Sent there without a plan.
The British played the Great Game,
Fought three wars up there.
Finally drew the Durand Line,
Then stayed out of that lair.
The Russians tried their hand as well,
Brought their tanks and planes.
Nine years later, they left, too
'Twas nothing there to gain.
Al Qada drew America's wrath,
the Taliban took the hit.
But instead of striking and going home
We jumped into the pit.
Nations, tell your armies,
not to do what we have done:
Squander lives and the treasury,
Tryin' to tame the wild Pashtun.
