Well, they asked for it!

The GOP apparently still hasn't gotten the message that I've left the reservation. Got a letter today from Mr. Steele, the chairman, who wants me to indicate my position on a number of issues listed on a 'census questionnaire' so they can "draw a blueprint to grow our ranks, educate voters, recruit great candidates who reflect our principles..."

Wait a minute... they have principles? Who knew? So I take a look at the questions they sent:

"Do you agree that we must stop illegal immigration?" Well, yes. And one way to do that is to quit encouraging it by periodically giving amnesty to those who've managed to elude the law long enough. Are the Republicans serious about no more amnesties, Mr. Steele? I think not.

"Should we oppose the federal government bailout of private companies?" Since you have to ask, Mr. Steele, you clearly aren't the small-government conservatives you've pretended to be for the past generation or so. Never fear, though -- that message was received loud and clear in the bailout frenzy just before "Dubya" left office.

"Should the Democrats' so-called Stimulus Bill with its wasteful pork-barrel spending be repealed?" Yes... and so should the first iterations, passed by the Republican Congress and President Bush shortly before the November 2008 election. Pot, meet kettle.

These are only a few of the 20+ "push poll" questions in this mailing. I was about to throw the whole hypocritical mess out when I realized they had done one thing right. They'd provided a postage paid envelope to return my "census." So I am. Along with a copy of this post and this one from a few years ago. It's the least I can do... and 'the least' is ALL I plan to do for the Republicrats from now on. A plague on both their houses.

PS: Mr Steele -- I was mightily amused at your list of 11 potential GOP presidential nominees for 2012. While you provided an "other" line, you didn't offer the "none of the above" option. I didn't bother to write in Ron Paul since you guys have made it clear you're no more eager to follow real conservatives than you are the Constitution. Figured a write-in would just be a waste of your time. Please return the favor and don't waste mine.

(If anyone else happens to get one of these, feel free to shamelessly borrow this feedback. They claim to be mailing 6.2 million of these out. Would love to have the RNC pay for 6.2 million raspberries!)
