I've heard it said the true measure of love is whether it reflects the character of God. The Bible seems to bear that out: husbands are instructed to love their wives as Christ loved the Church, and gave His life for her. For all the criticism people levy at scripture, seeing only vengeance and wrath, the truth is the Bible is the greatest love story of all time...
Your love, O LORD, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies. (Psalm 36:5)
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
(John 3:16)
The LORD appeared to us in the past, saying: "I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness.
(Jeremiah 31:3)
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8)
