Deadlines are so 19th Century anyway...

I was pleasantly surprised to see the House refuse to pass the $700 billion plunder package our financial wizards lobbied for. But I can't say I was surprised to see Congress adjourn once again without having a proper budget passed for the new fiscal year before the October 1 start date. This is a perennial event, every bit as much as watching the New Orleans Saints toy with respectability, only to blow it in the last few weeks of the season.

If I didn't get my work done on time, at some point someone would start docking my pay or otherwise imposing penalties on me. But I guess that force field known as the Beltway manages to transmute that reality, too.
