Quote of the Day

A blast from the past... 1959 to be exact:
The net effort of these and many other contradictions is that, while we are undeniably feared, we are no longer either respected or admired abroad.. And, which is more to the point, we are certainly both confused and uneasy here at home. The fundamental difficulty that gives rise to this painful and dangerous confusion is, I think, clear. We are trying to make a federal republic do an imperial job, without honestly confronting the fact that our traditional institutions are specifically designed to prevent centralization of power.
At some time and at some point, however, this fundamental conflict between our institutions and our policies will have to be resolved.
-- Felix Morley, "American Republic or American Empire"
It's being resolved, all right... in favor of centralization, empire and war-without-end.

: Ron Paul, whose book "Revolution: A Manifesto" I recently received as a gift. Yes, in my case he's preaching to the choir. I only wish I could afford to put a copy in the hands of every voter, so the "debate we never have" might finally have a chance to take place.

To "R": THANKS for the gift! :)

I say we start over. What do you think?

There are days I think that. The problem is that starting over requires a period of flux that history shows most often doesn't end well. To many people get excited about rising up and casting off what they think is the worst of all possible structures, only to find what replaces it to be more oppressive than when they started.

The only revolution I'm interested in is the kind that puts the Constitution back at the forefront and is willing to defend those already well-enunciated principles. Not one that is trying to once again create anew.

Ultimately, the only successful "do-over" will be the one God initiates.

Ron Paul could have effectively put a copy in the hands of most voters by making the book freely downloadable. Instead, there's a copyright notice explicitly denying people the right to share it with each other at their own expense.

Nobody's perfect, Tim. Not even Ron Paul.
