Go West, Uncle Sam

When you add up all the national parks, military bases, and general territory directly owned by the Federal Government, it adds up to a whopping 30% of all our land. (click image to enlarge)

As noted here, much of that land is leased for commercial use--logging, mining, etc. All well and good. But it begs the question: if Uncle Sam, landowner extraordinare, demanded fair market value for those leased resource rights, would we have to tax individual citizens' incomes to fund the legitimate core functions of government?

Oh, I forgot -- you're not supposed to question Big Brother Uncle Sam.
