From crisis to command economy?

As I recently mentioned, I'm convinced government has no interest in actually solving problems, because that would remove their excuse for meddling in every detail of our lives. As gas prices go ever higher, the oil companies are a juicy target for Congressional posturing. At least one executive had the nerve to introduce the concept of supply and demand after being subpoenaed to a Federal tongue-lashing.

The response by Congresswoman Maxine Waters (Socialist-California) to this little economic lesson is more than a little revealing.

So, the same government that has prohibited most drilling for oil, and effectively prevented the building of new refineries for decades, now wants TOTAL control of petroleum production. Yeah, that sounds like a great idea. After all, they manage all their other programs so well, and command economies have a historic track record of producing prosperity for their citizens (see: Soviet Union, Cuba, Marxism)

The fact Waters will likely be reelected again this year just shows America no longer understands or cares about the foundations of its freedoms. The erosion continues apace...
