On May 7, the USPS reported a fiscal second-quarter net loss of $707 million, "driven by a continued decline in mail volume resulting from the current national economic climate."On the other hand, that steady flood of pre-approved credit offers turns out to have at least one use... it apparently subsidizes the Post Office. With the credit crunch, the price of stamps is headed up. Again.
Postmaster General John Potter said in a statement that weakness in the housing and credit markets, "which are heavy users of mail, are leading the declines in mail volume."
