Motherhood times 18

If you've never heard of the Duggar family, you should do a little research on them. In a day when too many people think kids are an impediment to personal fulfilment, they illustrate the Biblical principle that "children are a heritage of the Lord." My wife and I have watched several shows about them. I'm sure critics say the many Duggar kids are shortchanged somehow by being part of a large family. You wouldn't know it to watch them in action. The influence of this Godly family will be felt for generations.
It's a happy Mother's Day for an Arkansas woman—she's pregnant with her 18th child. Michelle Duggar, 41, is due on New Year's Day, and the latest addition will join seven sisters and 10 brothers. There are two sets of twins.

Duggar said she's six weeks along and the pregnancy is going well. She and her husband, Jim Bob Duggar, said they'll keep having children as long as God wills it.
"The success in a family is first off, a love for God, and secondly, treating each other like you want to be treated," Jim Bob Duggar said. "Our goal is for each one of our children to be best friends, and everybody working together to serve each other makes that happen."

A culture that values life naturally honors those who've received the privilege of bringing it into this world. Happy Mother's Day to all--especially the mother of my Three Musketeers!

When I posted about the Duggars on my blog last year, when they had their 17th child, I was surprised that even some 'conservatives' had something negative to say about the Duggars. Attitudes have changed so much even in my lifetime, regarding large families.

My paternal grandparents had 13 children, which was not that uncommon then, and my maternal grandparents had 8 children. It's a telling commentary on our society that having large families is seen by a lot of people as being irresponsible or even antisocial. As a result of such ideas, there are fewer women becoming mothers these days.

Anyway, Happy Mother's Day to your good lady.
