Barron Hilton announced plans on Wednesday to donate 97 percent of his $2.3 billion fortune to charity. This is a far better use for the fortune than allowing it to pass to Paris, who apparently shames the Hilton clan after all. I'm sure we'll hear her sobbing soon about how it isn't fair Grandpa's only leaving 3 percent of $2 billion (that would still be $60 million...) to his debauched descendants. As John Scalzi pointed out, the press led this story of generosity by first commenting on its impact on the spoiled offspring. That money will be placed in a charitable trust that will eventually benefit the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, raising its total value to about $4.5 billion, the foundation said in a statement.
The foundation supports projects that provide clean water in Africa, education for blind children, and housing for the mentally ill. Its aims, based on Conrad Hilton’s will, are “to relieve the suffering, the distressed and the destitute.”
