Who's watching the watchers?

As noted in the last post, the corporate media are doing a poor job of self-policing. It appears the police may be as well...
Eighteen times in two years, Bolingbrook police were called to fellow officer Drew Peterson's home because of trouble between husband and wife. But Peterson's wife could never get authorities to arrest him. In fact, she was the only one ever charged.

Now residents of this Chicago suburb are wondering whether police were protecting one of their own — and whether they bear some responsibility for what happened next.

Peterson's wife at the time of the domestic disturbance calls, Kathleen Savio, was found dead in 2004 under mysterious circumstances. And now his current wife, Stacy, is missing and feared slain.

The way police dealt with Peterson "makes it kind of hard to trust cops," said Pablo Delira, a 59-year-old construction worker. He said he has no doubt he would have been led away in handcuffs if police had been called to his house 18 times.

No kidding...

Exhibit #2, on the other hand, shows the potential advantages of being married to the system:

The husband of an Atlanta police officer was arrested by FBI agents Thursday afternoon and is accused of producing child pornography for more than seven years.

U.S. Attorney David Nahmias said photographs from between 1999 and 2002 were just recently obtained by the FBI, even though a photo processing center employee alerted the Atlanta Police Department as early as 2000...

In 2000, an employee of a local photo processing company contacted the Atlanta Police Department because he was concerned about the content of the photos being developed for Crane, officials said.

In 2003, Crane's wife, who is a sergeant with the Atlanta Police Department, allegedly received a phone call from an unidentified person at APD headquarters informing her about the photos of her husband engaged in sexual activities with the young girls, investigators said. Crane's wife said she found several photographs in her house after the call and burned both the photos and the negatives. Crane allegedly continued in his attempts to have sex with young girls for the following four years, investigators said.
So much for "to protect and serve..."
