Tolkien vs. D&D

This is pretty funny. I have to admit, I never really got the whole D&D mania. My parents weren't crazy about it to begin with, but I still managed to get into a couple of games. Listening to a storyteller spin a yard while waiting for my turn to roll funky dice just really wasn't my cup of tea. Nor was watching how... seriously... some of my schoolmates took the whole thing. I could read a book on my own (including Lord of the Rings), without turning over my allowance to TSR for accessories.

Now, Star Fleet Battles? THAT was geekiness worth the effort and lawnmowing money...
