"We laugh at honor and are shocked to find traitors in our midst." -- C.S. LewisIf a prominent pastor was considering who to support for office, which choice do you think he'd gravitate to:
- A father of five, married for 40+ years (to the same woman...), obstetrician proud of having delivered over 4,000 babies, staunchly pro-life and noted publicly for his character, integrity and consistency.
- A man on his third marriage who is estranged from his kids, noted for his political intrigues, pro-abortion, proudly supports the gay lifestyle, and criticized for his authoritarian tendencies.
Well, if you're Pat Robertson, I guess it's the latter.
"The overriding issue before the American people, is the defense of our population against the bloodlust of Islamic terrorists," Robertson told the National Press Club audience. "Our world faces deadly peril...and we need a leader with a bold vision who is not afraid to tackle the challenges ahead."This quote summarizes how the organized, politicized so-called Religious Right is helping fashion the weapons that will one day be leveled against Christ's church. I don't detract from the fact there are extremists out to do us harm, but to subordinate ALL other considerations to fear and combating terrorism is dangerously wrong. Giuliani's only qualification for being President is that he looked good on television on 9/11. Aside from that, he's a philandering statist politician, and should not be given the ability to construct his ideal national security surveillance state.
Robertson is only one of several leftover '80s-type televangelists who routinely embarrass those who try soberly to follow after Christ. But this endorsement is over the top, even for him.
But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. By their fruit you will recognize them. Matthew 7:14-16
For God hath not given us a spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7
