If Fred Thompson teased ladies like he's teased the Republican Party all summer, people would have labeled him a spoiled cad long ago. Somehow holding multiple press events to say you're about to announce the date you'll announce an intention to announce your candidacy for President doesn't signify the decisive drive and leadership necessary to confront the nation's problems (way to skip those early debates, there, Fred!).
Thompson, while amusing, is merely the establishment panic option now that they've realized no one's really into what Giuliani, Romney and McCain are peddling. Wonder how many more sock puppets they'll have to pull out of the drawer before next November... 15 months is a looooooooong time to scrutinize the unusually thin gruel they're offering this time 'round.
While I'd love to see Ron Paul win the Republican nomination, I almost look forward to him making the transition to a coalition third party candidate. He may not be perfect (no politician ever will be), but the Grandly Offensive Party's done nothing in the last eight years to deserve having someone with his seriousness as their standard bearer.
