"The old parties are husks, with no real soul within either, divided on artificial lines, boss-ridden and privilege-controlled, each a jumble of incongruous elements, and neither daring to speak out wisely and fearlessly on what should be said on the vital issues of the day." -- Theodore Roosevelt

Quote of the Day
Joe Carter of Evangelical Outpost has a note today about the potential advantage our alleged two-party system has for binding the nation together. Maybe there are advantages to not having the electorate fragmented into dozens of niche parties. But I think that would be a better situation than a two-party duopoly that favors big government/business/internationalism over traditional, Constitutional, limited governance. What passes for "debate" in our electoral system is less sober examination of policy than it is soundbite warfare for the reigns of power--a power neither group sees any real limits to. In such circumstances, this two-party system becomes the "ties that bind" in more ways than one.
