Correcting the record

The quote from which this site takes its name deals with the difficulty all people have in making course corrections. The three most difficult words to say are not "I love you." They are "I was wrong." Pride prevents restoration of relationships and hinders further growth in any area of our life in which it is allowed to take root.

What's amusing is the range of positions we hold to solely out of pride. The planetary status of Pluto, for instance. A surprising amount of passion continues to be expended by scientists over whether a chunk of rock millions of miles away should be called a planet or a planetoid. Wonder if Pluto even took notice of its demotion.

If something as inconsequential as the label of an extraterrestrial rock can work people up, it's no wonder a civil discussion on Biblical historicism is well next to impossible anymore. "Case closed," people say. "There is no god but evolution, and Darwin is its prophet."

Nowhere does human pride manifest itself more strongly than in the area of Origins. "Science has it all figured out," we hear. Except for the parts they don't. Or the parts that contradict themselves. Or the circular reasoning required to support some parts of the theory.

Those who hold to the inerrancy of the Bible can also be guilty of prideful assumptions, failing to examine their beliefs in a teachable manner. Thus, science and theology both suffer from prideful practitioners. No wonder a majority of the world seems to have given up on the idea of an objective Truth. It's hard to find if you won't look past your own nose.

But as a popular sci-fi show used to declare, "the truth IS out there..."
