Not encouraging...

From the "are we there yet" file:
"America is safer than it has been, yet it is not yet safe," Bush told reporters at the National Counterterrorism Center just outside Washington. "The enemy has got an advantage when it comes to attacking our homeland: They got to be right one time and we've got to be right 100 percent of the time to protect the American people."
He's got a point... even if we cover all the known vulnerabilities, it doesn't mean a terror group can't get innovative. Given that challenge, though, and the President's own "100 percent" benchmark, it's disturbing that:

- We still have no serious commitment to physically securing our borders
- We're still issuing student visas to nations likely to harbor enemies...and having to round up strays...
- We're pursuing a heavy-handed global military strategy that makes new enemies faster than we can kill the old ones
- We're harassing citizens at the airport, and invading privacy on a scale hitherto unknown in our history, but refuse to expel organizations and individuals who openly sympathize with our avowed enemies.

Any wonder why the general mood in the nation is trending pessimistic?
