Triumph of evil

"All that's necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing."

America today tolerates or apologizes for behavior that, a few short decades ago, would have earned the offender(s) a sound thrashing, either in court or by their neighbors. But what to make of a crowd in Belgium that watches, then flees the scene when six "youths" beat to death a 54-year old train conductor whose only offense was to intervene when the ruffians began harrassing passengers?

"The man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature--and has no chance of being free, unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself." -- John Stuart Mill

The flock failed the sheepdog. At this rate, the sheep won't remain free much longer.
