Going into November’s elections, House and Senate Democrats are outbidding the White House on spending for immigration enforcement, with a special emphasis on deporting people convicted of major drug offenses and violent crimes.Translation: Demopublicans will use just enough of the issue to poke the Republicrats in the eye, but won't address the systemic border and immigration failures that threaten our nation's sovereignty. THAT might alienate core constituents, like, say, Che Guevara fans and the "Si, se puede" masses.
Immigration remains a highly divisive political issue — especially in the House Democratic Caucus. But targeting convicted criminals is seen as safe ground for the party and a pressure point to highlight shortcomings in the current enforcement system.
I've about concluded the Federal government is one giant kabuki dance. Nobody in Washington is interested in actually solving issues like runaway entitlement spending, border security or foreign adventurism. That would be like... working themselves out of a job. No, they need these "perennial issues" and other assorted "crises" in order to bash each other and seize the power that lets them insinuate themselves into every little nook and cranny of life.
It's worth saying again: if Uncle Sam can't deal effectively with the duties SPECIFIED in the Constitution, he probably doesn't need to be taking anything else onto his plate.
