How the Irish saved civilization (again)

Those trying to create a United State of Europa have been handed yet another defeat:
In a stunning setback for efforts to reform Europe’s unwieldy institutions, a senior Irish official said Friday that voters had rejected a revised European Union treaty designed to change the way the bloc governs itself and presents itself to the world. ((translation: this was an attempt to grab even more power for unelected bureaucrats in Brussels against whom the average European citizen has little or no recourse -- Jemison))

If that outcome is confirmed in official results, it will mean that the 27-member bloc will be in turmoil, its latest attempt to reform stymied by less than one percent of its population of almost 500 million.
Now, this whining about a small number of Irish voters is designed to make it appear they are the only thing standing in the way of Euro-utopia. This is flat out disingenuous. Plenty of Europeans express concern about the continuing loss of national sovereignties to this supranational entity. The fact is, though, ONLY THE IRISH -- "one percent of 500 million people" -- were even given a chance to vote on the Treaty!!
Ireland is the only country in the European Union to put the pact to a referendum. The other member states are approving it through their parliaments and 18 have backed it so far, but European Union rules require unanimous support for the treaty to come into effect.
The Lisbon Treaty is itself a repackaging of earlier attempts to form a European Constitution. Those attempts flamed out after "no" votes in popular referendums in France and the Netherlands. What this trifecta of defeats means is that popular sentiment is not on the side of the Eurocrats. Which means the road ahead, for them, is one of two routes:
- Find a way to ensure nobody gets to vote on future proposals, or
- Force the Irish to keep voting until they "get it right."

The globalists who envision a world of interlocking supranational bureautocracies aren't about to let people repeatedly shouting "NO" get in their way.
